The course develops fundamental knowledge in dosimetry and radiation protection. In particular, the historical development of radiation protection, the physical basics of dosimetry of ionizing radiation, the biological action of radiation and the radiation exposure of the public from natural and technological sources are discussed.
Interaction of photons, neutrons and charged particles with matter; description of the radiation field; basic dosimetric quantitites; biological radiation effects; practical aspects of radiation protection; philosophy of dose limitation; radiation exposure of the public; risk communication; radiation accidents.
