Aim of course

Superconducting technology based on SQUIDs and related devices are increasingly important in research. The aim is to make students familiar with the concepts of this technology and enable them to use these devices on a scientific basis, rather than on the usual black-box-approach.

Subject of course

Short introduction to the necessary basic concepts in superconductivity: flux quantization, Josephson equations, tunnel junctions Description of the concepts behind SQUID sensors Applications based on SQUID sensors (devices and experimental setups) other devices based on Josephson effects: Volt standard, digital devices
