Aim of course

An overview about basic physical principles and techniques of synthesis of functional materials in polycrystalline, single crystalline and amorphous state.

Subject of course

Principles and mechanisms of crystal formation and crystal growth. Crystal and amorphous states. Polycrystals and single crystals. Bulk materials and thin films. Relation between functional properties and the synthesis techniques. Methods and equipment of crystal growth. Relation crystal quality - crystal growth technique. Synthesis of super pure materials. Industrial crystal growth (e.g. silicon wafer technology, GaAs, quartz, diamond). Synthesis and properties of amorphous materials. Thin film technology. Fabrication of nanomaterials.
