Basic understanding of magnetic phenomena in solids which should enable to analyse and interpret results of magnetic measurements
Overview of magnetic phenomena: Dia- and paramagnetism, Curie Weiss law: Magnetic measurements: Faraday balance, induction methods, SQUID: Spontaneous ordered systems mean field approximation ferro- ferri- and antiferromagnetism: Crystal field effects, magnetic anisotropy: Band magnetism, Stoner Wohlfarth model, Landau theory for 2dn order phase transitions: Examples: dilute and concentrated magnetic alloys, metal-hydrogen systems, co-existance of magnetism and superconductivity in rare earth borocarbides.
