Aim of course

Introduction to quantum-field-theoretical methods relevant for research in heavy-ion physics (quark-gluon plasma) and physics of the early universe (electro-weak and strong phase transitions, cosmological perturbations)

Subject of course

1. Introduction: Statistical quantum mechanics, relativistic thermodynamics, propagators of many-body systems, perturbation theory, Matsubara formalism, Keldysh formalism, gauge theories at finite temperature; 2. Applications: 2.1. Collective phenomena in a relativistic plasma: quasi-particle spectrum in QED and QCD plasma, improvements of perturbation theory; 2.2. Phase transitions in the standard model of elementary particle physics: spontaneous symmetry breaking and symmetry restoration at high temperature, effective potential
