After successful completion of the course, students are able to summarise a) the history of acoustics, especially its milestones influencing the theory of cognition, b) to describe acoustic waves in solids, fluids and gases, c) to explain electro acoustic analogies and electro acoustic transducers as well as d) to recognise and understand the importance of ultrasound in nature, engineering and medicine. Furthermore, students passing the examination are able to explain important terms as SONAR, NDT, HIFU, Doppler-Sonography, sono-luminiscence as well as timely ultrasound applications, e.g., resonant acoustic wave based (BAW, SAW) sensors, ultrasonic biocell-filters, sono-thrombolysis, sono-poration and, if needed, are able to apply this state-of-the-art knowledge within their future profession.
History of Acoustics and its impact to the understanding of cognition; Theory; Acoustic waves in solids media; Acoustic waves in fluids; Electroacoustic analogies; Electroacoustic transducers; Ultrasound in nature, engineering and medicine. Explanation of established and of timely ultrasound applications: SONAR; Non-destructive Testing NDT; High Intensity Focused Ultrasound HIFU; Ultrasound imaging; Doppler-sonography; Ultrasound and dispersions (ultrasonic separation of suspended particles, emulsion splitting), Ultrasound bio-cell filters; Sonoluminiscence; Sonothrombolysis, Sonoporation).
Research guided education by lectures supported by digital presentations with focus on video-clips demonstrating procedure and results of simple key experiments for the understanding of acoustics.
