Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to apply calculus of surface physics, to categorise different numerical methods of surface physics as well as to operate calculations necessary for interpretation and evaluatioin of experimental data.

Subject of course

Different numerical methods for the theoretical description of solid state surfaces as well as numerical methods necessary for evaluation and interpretation of experimental data will be discussed and compared. Main topic: segregation phenomena on solid state surfaces (empirical models, thermodynamic description of surfaces, Embedded Atom Method, and others..., as well as calculations for data evaluation as e.g. LEED intensity spectra)

Teaching methods

Lecture where based on the corresponding script the subjects are explained, discussed and with the help of calculating exercises explicated.
