Introduction to numerical methods used in surface science. Model calculations for theoretical decriptions will be presented as well as methods for evaluation and interpretation of experimental data. Selected topics (e.g. surface segregation phenomena) will be discussed in detail.
Different numerical methods for the theoretical description of solid state surfaces as well as numerical methods necessary for evaluation and interpretation of experimental data will be discussed and compared. Main topic: segregation phenomena on solid state surfaces (empirical models, thermodynamic description of surfaces, Embedded Atom Method, and others..., as well as calculations for data evaluation as e.g. LEED intensity spectra)
