After successful completion of the course, students are able to participate in plasma phsics projects. The aim of the course is an overview on plasma theory with an emphasis on fusion physics. After successful completion of the course the students are in a position to recognize the main problems in this field, to understand technicals articles in scientific journals and to attend relevant congresses. With the knowledge acquired in the course the students are in a position to participate on scientific projects and to perform master theses in this field
The plasma state, One- particle model, Tokamak und Stellerator, ITER project, fluid model, energy and particle confinement, kinetic theory, plasma waves and instabilities, models and computer simulations
The course is based on detailed lecture notes structured into 14 chapters to be downloaded by the students. Mathematics used in the course is presented in appendices. The content of each chapter is resumed by a collection of questions. The answeres to these questions are discussed in the beginning of every lecture.
In addition to the lecture notes a lot of information on progress of fusion physics are given during the lectures
The success of the course is acertained by an oral examination based on the question collection (see METHODES). The examination lasts abaut 45 minutes.
