After successful completion of the course, students are able to work independently in a cell culture lab. They have mastered aseptic techniques as well as basic cell culture techniques such as cell passaging, cryopreservation and cell counting.
This course provides an introduction to mammalian cell culture, covering topics such as laboratory setup, aseptic techniques and safety aspects. Students will perform the following techniques on both adherent and suspension cell lines: resuspension of mammalian cells from cold storage, sterile media preparation, passaging and feeding of cells, cryopreservation of cells, microscopic evaluation of confluence and morphology, and cell counting. Further, students will work with 3D spheroid cultures and perform metabolic activity assays.
The contents of the laboratory course are conveyed by a working instruction and the exercises described therein. An instructor will show and supervise small groups of students.
Registration for the LU requires a positive completion of the accompanying VO. Modalities of the LU will be announced in the VO.
A course is scheduled for June 2022.
