Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to correctly describe and design measurement systems based on the required resolution in time and space and with a view of the noise signals, select suitable components and give an estimate of the expected performance.

Subject of course

Signals and Noise . analog and digital signals, transmission lines . various types of noise: nyquist, shot, quantization,... . signal/noise-ratio, information, entropy, bandwidth, throughput . sampling-theorem, time and frequency domain, fourier transform, filtering, convolution,

Sensors,  Imaging systems . direct imaging, image sensors, limits of resolution, noise, scanning system, electron and ion beam, ultrasound, radar, lasers. . tomographic systems. Systems base on quatum mechanics, e.g. atomic clocks.

Fundametals of control systems . P, PI PID regulators, . control loop, stability
