Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand the concepts and research questions in modern surface physics and be able to make sense of scientific research papers in this area.

Subject of course

Description of solid surfaces; chemical, crystallographic, and electronic structure of surfaces; thermodynamics; crystallography; adsorption  and desorption of molecules;  principles of surface spectroscopy.

Teaching methods

In addition to the lecture, in-class exercises and interactive discussions will be held.  Lab visits will be offered as appropriate.
