Learning outcomes

 

After successful completion of the course, students are able to :

      comprehend the properties of modern lasers

      are able to realize the application of light with properties achievable with lasers in physics, chemistry and medical sciences

     are able to select the appropriate laser for an specific application

Subject of course

Laser basics. Basics of laser-atom and matter interaction. Overview over different lasers. Tunable lasers. Methods of laser spectroscopy. Ultra-short-lasers and applications. Interaction of light with matter.

Teaching methods

Discussion of fundamental properties of light

Presentaion of selected application in differnt areas (physics, medicine etc)

Use of modern Softaware (MAthemazica, Comsol etc) to determine (stimate) the required laser paraamters for different applications

Written and oral

Saeveral short tests to ensure the progress during the lecture and if successfully finished together with a regular attendence in the lecture.
