Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to apply basic theoretical concpets for the understanding of ordered solids and its surfaces to common problems in surface physics, (adsorption, reactions at surfaces etc), and to model related phenomena with computational ab-initio approaches .

Subject of course

Introduction to commonly used ab-initio methods.

Introduction into basic concepts of ordered solids and surfaces. Electronic structure: band-structure, density-of-states 

Descritption of bare surfaces, adsorption and reactions at surfaces.
