Aim of course

Understanding of the physical concepts of different magnetic materials and systems

Subject of course

1. Introduction Magnetic terms and definitions, Classification of magnetic materials, Magnetic materials of technical importance 2. Magnetic domains and micromagnetics Contribution to the free energy, Domain walls, Magnetic domain structure, Single-domain and multi-domain particles, Domain wall pinnig, Magnetization processes 3. Permanent magnets Calculation of magnetic circuits, Characteristic parameters, Composition and microstructure, Rare earth permanent magnets, Powdermetallurgical preparation, Applications 4. Magnetic recording Magnetic tapes and disks, Composition and microstructure, Longitudinal and perpendicular recording, Magneto-optical recording, Bubble domains, Future aspects 5. Ferrimagnetic materials Spinel ferrites, Hexagonal ferrites, Orthoferrites, Rare earth garnets 6.
