After successful completion of the course, students are able to digest basic concepts of open quantum systems, to describe a theoretical model of dynamics involving the decoherence induced by the environment as well as to apply those to Rydberg atoms.
Quantum objects interacting with light (Bloch equation), ensemble effects (homogeneous/inhomogeneous broadening), interaction with quantized light (Jaynes Cummings mode), decoherence induced by coupling to reservoir (Lindblad equation), and applications with Rydberg atoms (Rydberg molecules, Dipole-blockade, etc)
During the lecture basic concepts are explained and exercises are solved for better understanding.
The lecture is held in English. The first lecture will be on 2.10.2019 in SEM 136 at 16:00.
Grading is based on a written report and an oral exam
