After successful completion of the course, students are able to are in postion to reproduce the contnts as outlined in detail in the english version of "Lehrinhalte" in written as well as oral form. Moreover the students will be able to apply the basic concepts of Projektarbeit Quantenmechanik von mesoskopischen Systemen to simple examples.
Semiconductors on the micro- and nanometer scale show a variety of quantum effects which can be understood by the phase coherence of these systems. Models that describe the physics involved in such "mesoscopic" devices are applied to specific problems.
Lecture with a strong and active student participation.
This project work also comprises other research topics that are being worked on in the Rotter group (see the homepage of the group at https://rottergroup.itp.tuwien.ac.at for the most recent research output).
During the project regular meetings take place to monitor progress; for the completion of the project a report (in English) is to be handed in that presents the new results that were achieved.
Not necessary
Interested students are required to have knowledge on the following topics: quantum mechanics, electrodynamics, and methods of theoretical physics.
