Aim of course

Based on the knowledge obtained in the course Statistical Physics I the students are familiarized with the applications of thermodynamics and statistical mechanics.

Subject of course

Stochastic processes, transport theory (Boltzmann's equation); Phase transitions and critical phenomena; computer simulations

Additional information

The lecture is held in close cooperation with the Statistical Physics II Exercise course.
The students are invited to attend the combined lecture-exercise classes.
However, both courses can also be taken independent of each other.

Examination modalities

2 alternative exam options:

a) "VO-Modus": one written exam at the end of the semester on the content of the lecture. (replacement test in October and additonal oral exams until two years after the end of the course).

b) "VU-Modus": Joint grading with the exercise course "UE 136.050 Statistical Physics II": written exam at the end of the semester and interactive tutor-based exercise classes every two weeks; (replacement test in October, no further oral exams).
