Aim of course

Based on the knowledge obtained in the course Statistical Physics I the students are familiarized with the applications of thermodynamics and statistical mechanics.

Subject of course

Stochastic processes, transport-theory (Boltmann's equation)

Phase transitions and critical phenomena, computer-simulations

The lecture is held in close cooperation with the Statistical Physics II Exercise course.
The students are invited to attend the combined lecture-exercise classes.
However, both courses can also be taken independent of each other.

Examination modalities

2 alternative exam options:

a) lecture mode: separate written and oral exam (three times per semester, last exam two years after the end of the course).
Dates for the written exam will be announced on the website of the institute; registration at the secretary's office is required.

b) Joint grading with the exercise course "UE 136.050 Statistical Physics II": written test at the end of the Semester (once !) and interactive tutor-based exercise classes every two weeks; replaces the oral part of the lecture exam; joint grade for lecture and exercises.
