After successful completion of the course, students are able to explain the principles of electromagnetic oscillation and waves as well as optics, to solve simple physical problems involving these topics, to use basic concepts such as boundary conditions and refraction, and to autonomously build physical models.
Introductory course in classical electrodynamics (Book: Demtröder 2: Chapters 7-12)
Lecture with embedded experiments to demonstrate the physical laws and accompanying exercises during which physical problems related to the lecture are solved and presented by the students.
Students who participate in the VU „Fundamentals of Physics 2a“); your registration will be transferred automatically to Fundamentals of Physics 2b (if you agree); you don’t need to register here separately
Students who don’t participate in the VU "Fundamentals of Physics 2a": please register in the group „Studierende, die die VU "Grundlagen der Physik 2a" nicht besuchen“ in the “Groups” tab.
You will be assigned to the small exercises groups after the registration deadline at random to ensure similar groups. Unfortunately, we cannot incorporate any special preferences.
This course is taught in German. If you want to participate in an english group, please register to the group “English preferred” under the “Groups” tab. Unfortunately, a place in an English group cannot be guaranteed. If such a group assignment is of utmost importance to you, please also write an e-mail to stefan.loeffler@tuwien.ac.at and we will see what we can do.
The details of the exercises modalities will be presented on Thu, 7. March, 09:00 in FH HS 5.
The performance is evaluated in two parts: the first (practical) assessment is based on weekly short tests, solved problems and active participation. The second (theoretical) assessment is based on a written exam. The results of the two parts are averaged. For a positive grade, both parts must be passed individually. Further details can be found in TUWEL.
It is possible in principle to transfer a positive assessment of the exercises part from the 2022S semester. Please contact stefan.loeffler@tuwien.ac.at before the start of the semester.
Use Group Registration to register.
The course is based on the book:Demtröder, W.: Experimentalphysik 2, "Elektrizität und Optik", Springer-Verlag, 7. Auflage, 2017Having an earlier edition of the book is not a substantial disadvantage as various editions differ only slightly.
