Properties

  • Semester hours: 2.0
  • Credits: 3.0
  • Type: UE Exercise
  • Format: Hybrid

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to visualize geophysical measurements, process, model and invert geophysical data sets as well as the visualization and interpretation of the geophysical results

Subject of course

  • Vertical Electrical Sounding (VES)
  • Electrical Resistivity Tomography (ERT)
  • Transient Electromagnetic Soundings (TEM)
  • Seismic Refraction Tomography (SRT)

Teaching methods

  • The exercise is given in presence with the material shared through the TUWEL page of the LVA
  • Working in small groups of 4-5 students (or individually if necessary) to complete the tasks explained at the beginning of the semester. The teams are fixed for the entire semester.
  • Preparation and submission of reports for each exercise (a total of 3 reports)
  • Final presentation of the last results (max 10 min per group)
  • Development of scripts in Python for the visualization of raw data and inversion results (1D or 2D).
  • Use of research algorithms for the modeling of physical signatures.
  • Questions to the exercises can be posted in the TUWEL forum and will be addressed during a weekly 2 hour tutoring.

Mode of examination

Immanent

Additional information

The exercise tasks will be offered in presence only.

You need to have a computer with one of the following operating systems in order to correctly run the python packages used during the exercise:
