After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

• Understand the basic concepts and technologies of web mapping
• Produce general and cartographic content for the web
• Integrate & adapt 3rd party web mapping solutions on their own websites
• Gain an overview of current & future trends in web mapping

For the summer term of 2024, the course starts with the intro lecture on WEDNESDAY, 13.3. 14:00

• Technological Foundations of the World Wide Web
• Introduction to base technologies for web maps: HTML, CSS, SVG, Canvas 2D/3D, Mapping APIs
• Geodata for web mapping: formats and standards
• Open source and commercial APIs and Tools
• Outlook on current and future developments

Please have a look at "Show single appointments" because lectures do not take place every single week.

• Theoretical lectures
• Discussion of case studies
• Individual assignments
• Group project and final presentation session
• Group supervision during the semester

• 3 assignments to work on individually
• Group project: Design and implementation of an online mapping project

Please note that all hand-ins have to be on time. A repetition of individual assignments is not possible! (No single assignment has to be completed with a positive grade in order to get a positive grade for the entire course.)
