Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • Understand the basic concepts and technologies of web mapping
  • Produce general and cartographic content for the web
  • Integrate & adapt 3rd party web mapping solutions on their own websites
  • Gain an overview of current & future trends in web mapping

  • Encoding of Text, Data and Documents for the Web
  • Introduction to base technologies for web maps: HTML, CSS, SVG, Canvas 2D/3D, Mapping APIs
  • Geodata for web mapping: formats and standards
  • Open source and commercial APIs and Tools
  • Outlook on current and future developments
