Aim of course

Hands-on introduction to concepts and tools of contemporary web mapping.

Subject of course

Theoretical part:

  • Concepts of web maps 
  • Tools for web mapping 
  • Data for web maps: data sources, data formats and standards, data quality 
  • Usability of web maps 

Practical part: 

  • Introduction to HTML and CSS 
  • Introduction to JavaScript 
  • Basics on how to build mashups 
  • Introduction to open source web mapping tools
  • Collecting data for OpenStreetMap and using the data for web maps

Additional information

Blocked at the beginning of the semester. Details at the introductory meeting on Monday, 4.3., 2.30pm-4pm.
