In-depth knowledge on spatial databases:

- spatial extensions for databases

- representation of spatial data

- access to spatial data

- spatial access methods

Subject of course

Representation, handling, and analysis of spatial data within spatial databases.

Previous knowledge

Basic knowledge on databases and programming

Basic programming experience in a high-level programming language (e.g., C, C++, Java, php, javascript, python); IMPORTANT: we will be using PostgrSQL procedural language PlPython; those that are completely unfamiliar with Python programming language are strongly encouraged to take the class "Introduction to Python programming for geoscience" (https://tiss.tuwien.ac.at/course/courseDetails.xhtml?windowId=d3f&courseNr=120050&semester=2015W)

Basic knowledge on operating databases management systems;

Knowledge of procedural and/or object-oriented programming paradigm
