Aim of course

Hands-on introduction to concepts and tools of contemporary web mapping

Subject of course

Theoretical part:

  • Concepts of web maps 
  • Tools for web mapping 
  • Data for web maps: data sources, data formats and standards, data quality 
  • Usability of web maps 

Practical part: 

  • Introduction to HTML and CSS 
  • Introduction to JavaScript 
  • Basics on how to build mashups 
  • Introduction to OpenStreetMap

Additional information

  1. Due to the high number of course registrations and limited capacities in our computer rooms, we have to hold the course a little different than originally planned. The practical parts will be mostly done through eLearning videos. This will allow everyone from the waiting list to also participate. 
  2. Please note, that this is a beginners course to web mapping. If you already have experience in HTML, CSS and simple Google Mashups, this course will be too basic for you.

  • Course is held blocked at the beginning of the semester.
  • Lecture will be held in English.
