This course covers different basic aspects of web mapping and desktop mapping, such as database and data management, web mapping standards and software, and cloud computing for web mapping.
After completing this course, the student will be able to:
1) Understand the basics of database and spatial database.
2) Use PostgreSQL and PostGIS to create data tables and run SQL and spatial SQL queries.
3) Understand web services and open standards for web mapping (WMS, WFS, WCS, WPS, SLD, GML).
4) Work with GeoServer to publish spatial data on the Web.

Only a limited number of places are available for this course. This course is compulsory for "066 200 Cartography". For the remaining seats priority will be given to the study programmes "066 421 Geodesy and Geomatics Engineering" and "066 464 Geomatics Engineering and Cartography".
