This course covers different basic aspects of web mapping and desktop mapping, such as database and data management, web mapping standards and software, cloud computing for web mapping, and desktop mapping.
After completing this course, the student will be able to:
1) Understand the basics of database and spatial database, use PostgreSQL and PostGIS to create data tables and run SQL and spatial SQL queries.
2) Understand web services and open standards for web mapping (WMS, WFS, WCS, WPS, SLD, GML).
3) Understand the basics of ArcGIS and ModelBuilder.
4) Construct workflow diagrams in Processing Modeler for QGIS.
5) Work with GeoServer to publish spatial data on the Web.
6) Understand the basics of cloud computing, work with typical cloud computing platforms (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS) for web mapping.
