Additional information

This course is mainly based on e-learning.

Students have create to a map independently and on their own. It's recommended to create an analog map product (paper, 3d-print, wood-cutting, ...). Style and content of the map need to be defined by the students. Studends have to report on the progress of their project regularly (approx. monthly) and will get feedback from the lecturer (and maybe their collegues). Besides this there are no additional classes and there is no introduction to and no assistance in technological issues. Therefore, registering in this course only makes sense if students have already aquired sufficient knowlege and skills in one of the following technologies:

  • Drawing maps with vector-based illustration software, e.g. Illustrator, FreeHand, Inkscape, CorelDraw, OCAD. (Typical CAD software like AutoCAD is not suitable in most cases.) *
  • GIS-based cartography (with a focus on the cartographic quality of the outcome)

* However, there will be online videos that give a short introduction to vector editing programs. These can be a starting point to individually learn one of these programs.

  • It's important to register for the course in TISS to get access to the e-learning service TUWEL! Note: "watching/subscribing" is not the same as "registering".
  • You can contact me by e-mail anytime. If your question might be interesting for all students, please ask in the TUWEL forum instead.
  • Important news and changes are distributed to the students via TISS or TUWEL. It is the student's responsibility to make sure to get these news.
  • FYI: Seminarraum 126 is on the first floor of the building Gußhausstraße 30 (same as Erzherzog-Johann-Platz 1).
