Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to use geomorphological terminology and they understand geomorphological concepts and processes. They understand the importance of landscape forming processes at the Earth surface and their connection with processes in Earth´s interior and in the atmosphere. Students are able to estimate process rates and know of the importance of climatic factors.

Subject of course

(1) Definitions, basic concepts, outlook. (2) Short introduction into geology. (3) Endogenic and exogenic processes. (4) Climate and climate change. (5) Age determination of quaternary surfaces and sediments. (6) Physical and chemical weathering, erosion. (7) Fluvial processes (8) Karst: factors, processes, landscapes. (9) Glacial processes and landscapes, periglacial processes and their engineering challenges (10) Aeolian processes, deserts. (11) Tectonic geomorphology: fault scarps, neotectonic, seismic risks. (12) Marine coasts and sea level changes.
