Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to calculate gravity attraction and potential of simply shaped bodies and familiar with  the theoretical background of conservative fields . Based on this knowledge and via solving the geodetic boundary value problem they are able to establish analytical descriptions of the Earth gravity field in form of series expansion. Students are able to treat this problems both in spatial sperical and ellipsoidal coordinate systems.

Subject of course

Newtonian Potential,Theorems of Green and Gauss, Attraction of lines, surfaces and rigid bodies, Spherical and ellipsoidal harmonics. Geodetic applications of the theoretical content.

Teaching methods

The learning contents are provided by a thorough  discussion and explanation of the accompanyed lecture notes. In addition, numerical examples are integrated to deepen the understanding of the learning contents.

Mode of examination

Oral
