Properties

  • Semester hours: 2.0
  • Credits: 3.0
  • Type: SE Seminar

Aim of course

Treatment of a scientific or technical question by reading and understanding scientific articles and autonomous literature search. Presentation of scientific and application-oriented topics. Design and implementation of an understandable ad-libbed presentation. Skill to defend the presented statements in a serious discussion.

Subject of course

Advanced seminar comprising independent literature research by the students enhanced by dedicated experiments and/or data processing, depending on the respective topic. The students present their research in an oral presentation and compile a short report documenting the findings for future students. Special emphasis is put on facilitating a discussion by the students after the oral presentation.

Furthermore, the seminar shall provide an outlook of the very latest developments in instrumentation, measurement techniques and data analysis, such that the students are aware of these when starting their professional carreer soon afterwards.

Additional information

This course takes place at the same time and location as the other "Seminars of Geoscience", announced by the other research groups of the Department of Geodesy and Geoinformation. This course does NOT take place regularly EVERY WEEK. There is a separate TISS entry for every research group, administrative details and seminar dates are listed in the geoinformation entry only:

120.016 Seminar of Geosciences (Cartography)
120.020 Seminar of Geosciences (Advanced Geodesy)
120.025 Seminar of Geosciences (Geoinformation) <-- seminar dates and registration are here!
120.037 Seminar of Geosciences (Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing)
120.040 Seminar of Geosciences (Engineering geodesy)
120.049 Seminar of Geosciences (Geophysics)

The first meeting is for creating the presentation schedule. If possible, topics for presentations should be arranged with the advisor before the first meeting. However, there will be some topics available for ERASMUS students.

We will have 4-5 presentations per meeting and therefore, there is a capacity of 32-40 students per semester. The presentation schedule will be published on the website of the department.

Presence at all meetings is compulsory for students and advisors should attend as many meetings as possible.
