Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to capture objects using laser scanning or image matching. Additionally, students are able to orientate and further process the capture point could by different processing methods.

Subject of course

  • Measurement of point clouds with laser scanning and image matching
  • Attribute from the measurement process
  • Visualization of point clouds
  • Explorative analysis of point clouds
  • Orientation with ICP
  • Data structures for large point clouds
  • Programming of simple point cloud tasks
  • Classification of a point cloud

The examples will be processed with OPALS during the course and further analysed by the students in small groups.

Teaching methods

Introduction and enhanced processing with the software package OPALS, several examples will be computed during the course, self-depend execution of two exercises in small groups (exercise 1: point cloud acquisition; exercise 2: processing and analysis)
