120.029 Microwave Remote Sensing
This course is in all assigned curricula part of the STEOP.
This course is in at least 1 assigned curriculum part of the STEOP.

2019W, VO, 2.0h, 3.0EC

Properties

  • Semester hours: 2.0
  • Credits: 3.0
  • Type: VO Lecture

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to (i) describe the measurement principles of active and passive microwave sensors using physical models and (ii) interpret the information content of microwave remote sensing data based on an understanding of the interaction of microwaves with natural objects.

Subject of course

  • Electromagnetic Waves
  • Microwave Sensors
  • Dielectric Properties of Natural Media
  • Physical Mechanisms of Scattering
  • Physical Mechanisms of Emission
  • SAR Interferometry

Teaching methods

The lecture follows the available script, which together with the handouts is also suitable for self study. The derivation of important physical models is explained step by step on the blackboard or using slides. Students can prepare for the exam using a list of examplary questions.

Mode of examination

Written and oral

Additional information

The lecture is held in English.
