After successful completion of the course, students are able to perform basic operations in the numerical weather model (NWM). Through dedicated lectures and group tasks, the students will understand the process of weather forecasting, acquire new competences in GNSS data assimilation, and visualize the results on the map.
This course is designed to supply students the overview about numerical weather prediction models. Students train how to run weather forecasts, assimilate GNSS data, and asses their impact on the weather prediction. In addition to the technical skills, special focus is also given to the data analysis.
Practical experiences with weather forecasting and data assimilation is conveyed in form of group work (2 person groups) by means of selected examples.
Dedicated lectures are held on weather forecasting (WRF model) and data assimilation (WRF DA), as well as data analysis (MATLAB, QGIS). All required commands (for WRF model, Linux system, and MATLAB), as well as tasks’ descriptions are provided on PowerPoint slides. Technical reports are delivered in 2 person groups, maximally two weeks after the lecture.
Delivery of technical reports (templates to download).
