Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to plan and conduct an interdisciplinary project in Geosciences by applying their knowledge and techniques acquired within their course of study.

Subject of course

  • Independent organization and conduction of scientific measurements
  • Analysis and processing of the data with existing software packages (commercial and/or open source) and Individual scripts developed by the students if necessary
  • Visualization and description of the obtained results
  • Preparation of a scientific report
  • Presentation of the project and the results in form of a scientific talk

Teaching methods

Several topics for student projects are offered aiming at solving a particular “real-life” problem in Geosciences. The projects are distributed within small teams of students. For each topic there is a supervisor that explains the main objectives and the suggested methods (from those learnt through the studies) to fulfill them. The students should organize and manage their time and efforts to reach the objectives. At the end of the semester, each team submits a report describing the methodology deployed and the main results. The final grade is based on the evaluation of the report and a final presentation at the end of the semester.
