Aim of course

Imparting of basic knowledge in number theory, along with some carefully selected examples, which are to show the applicability of results belonging at first sight to "pure" mathematics.

Subject of course

After a general introduction in number theory the lecture focuses on primality tests and factorisation algorithms of large numbers, as well as several applications in cryptography and in the generation of random numbers.
