Aim of course

Knowledge of probabilities to describe real phenomena and ability to construct stochastic models, and their statistical analysis.

Subject of course

This course is an introductory statistics and probability theory course.

  • Counting (permutations, combinations)
  • Probability spaces
  • Random variables, distributions, quantiles, mean variance, independence
  • Conditional probability, Bayes' theorem
  • Joint distributions, covariance, correlation, independence
  • Law of large numbers, Central limit theorem
  • Descriptive Statistics (frequency table, diagrams, empirical distribution, histogram)
  • Significance tests and confidence intervals
  • Linear regression

Examination modalities

There will be one final written exam. First exam date of the winter semester 2018/19 will be on Wednesday, 30th January 2019.

The exam takes place in two lecture halls: FH Hörsaal 1 and Informatikhörsaal. Please make sure to double check in TISS for which room you’re booked in. The exam registration ends on Monday 28.01.2019 at 23:59. De-registration in TISS is possible until Monday 28.01.2019, 23:59.

 This is a multiple-choice questions exam. For each task, there are four possible answers,  and only one is correct. The one alternative that best completes the statement or answers the question should be chosen by ticking. You have to use a pen with either blue or black ink. The processing time is 120 minutes. 

You may use a calculator and a sheet with the formulas you may need (written on one two-sided A4 format paper). The sheet with formulas should be submitted with the exam.  

Computers, smartphones, tablets, notes, books, etc., as well as discussions and consultations,  are not allowed during the exam. 

It is mandatory to bring a personal document/ID with picture.
