Aim of course

Problems arising in the numerical treatment of mathematical models. Knowledge and understanding of methods in the numerical analysis. The ability to analyse and design numerical algorithms, knowledge of the most important available software packges.

Subject of course

Basic error concepts: condition of mathematical problems, error, discretization error, round-off error. Numerical solution of linear systems of equations, numerical differentiation and integration, polynomial interpolation and approximation. 1)Introduction: Aims, basic notions and the methodology of Numerical Analysis. Computer solution of mathematical problems, conditioning of mathematical models, stability of algorithms, round-off errors, errors of the approximation methods, iterative methods. 2)Numerical linear algebra, linear systems of equations, eigenvalue problems, CG-Methode. 3)Software: Basic concepts, available packages.
