Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to

  • outline the scheme and the structure of programing in the software environment R,
  • efficiently work with bigger and more complex data sets in R, including visualization.

Subject of course

This lecture gives an introduction into statistical data analysis using modern computer methods with an emphasis on applied practical work. The topics include programming using the R programming language, data manipulation, graphical data visualization and interactive web apps using shiny in R.

Examination modalities

 The deliverables consist of: 

  1. 4 synchronous mini-quizzes in TUWEL which require presence in the lecture (HS 17 Friedrich Hartmann - ARCH). Bring your laptops! Alternatively, you can also use your smartphone to answer the questions, as access to R or RStudio is not compulsory for solving the questions. Due to the number of students, we will have to split the class in two groups: group 1 from 9:30-10:00, group 2 from 10:15-10:45. The registration for each quiz will be done in TUWEL.
  2. 4 written assignments to be uploaded in TUWEL. These assignments can be completed in groups. 
  3. Final electronic exam in TUWEL which requires presence in the lecture, but is not mandatory - we offer two dates for this final exam. However the number of people per final exam is limited to 120 persons.
