Properties

  • Semester hours: 2.0
  • Credits: 3.0
  • Type: VU Lecture and Exercise
  • Format: Online

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to

  • apply the theory of dynamical systems to modeling problems (e.g. interacting species)
  • interpret results in term of agents' behavior
  • interpret steady states and limit cycles
  • animate phase portraits and plot bifurcation diagrams
  • use the Poincaré map as a tool for studying strability and bifurcations
  • interpret the solutions to modeling problems taken from various scientific disciplines, and in particular, environmental systems, biology, meteorology, and population dynamics

Subject of course

Introduction to the theory of dynamical systems with the aid of Python

Teaching methods

The contents including explanations are presented online via TUWEL. For this purpose, screencatch videos are stored and can then be accessed at any time. If applicable, TUWEL lessons are also provided. Exercise Examples are implemented in Python, where parts of the code are largely available but may have to be adapted. For this reason, knowledge of Python is necessary.
