Aim of course

Usually discrete models are used for the creation of tables for active lives remaining. Methods for the approximative calculation of transition probability are analysed in the Seminar. The  tables for active lives remaining which are calculated by the discrete model are verified by the continuous model (system of differential equations shaped by the calculated transition intensities).

Subject of course

  • calculation of tables for active lives remaining with the discrete model
  • explanation of the different denominations used in the actuarial literature: independent, dependent, partial and total probabilities
  • calculation by approximation of the partial probabilities
  • theorem of Karup-Loewy
  • continuous model (system of differential equations)
  • application: Calculation of a table for active lives remaining with the discrete and with the continuous model
