Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to:

  • design, debug and test programs in the MATLAB language
  • solve easy to moderately difficult problems in statistics and applied mathematics using MATLAB

Subject of course

MATLAB syntax (command- and partially object-oriented), graphical representations, problems in linear algebra, optimization and statistics, solution of ordinary differential equations by functions in the various toolboxes.

Teaching methods

Learning of language and tool boxes by means of example programs, development of programs for solving problems posed in weekly assignment. You are obliged to work in groups of two.

Mode of examination

Immanent

Additional information

Please register only if you are seriously committed to attend the entire course! You will need a laptop with a MATLAB installation already in the first unit, see http://www.sss.tuwien.ac.at/sss/mla/.
Further instructions will follow right after the end of the registration period.

The course is held onlinehttps://tuwien.zoom.us/s/94743301239. Sign in with your TU email address.

Examination modalities

Starting on March 10, 2022, I will upload an assignment with 1-2 obligatory or optional problems into TUWEL. The programs that solve the problems have to be delivered until 5pm the following Wednesday. The exact specifications how to deliver the program are listed in the file. Please follow them precisely to help me in the administration of the many programs coming in every week. If you fail to do this, the submission will be rejected and you will lose the chance of a correction.

Each problem comes with a number of points. After every submission you or your group will get feedback about the correctness or mistakes to be corrected. In the latter case you are expected to submit corrected version. If the program is correct after the 1st or the 2nd submission you earn the full number of points. A 3rd submission is possible only in very exceptional cases. The final mark is computed from the percentage of your total number of points relative to the maximal number of points in the following way:

60-74%:               4
75-89%:               3
90-99%:               2
100% and more : 1

You can earn points for all problems, but only the obligatory problems are relevant for the maximal number of points!
