After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand the fundamentals and methods of Architectural Geometry that enable complex geometry in architecture. The students gain insights into the newest research results in the field of Architectural Geometry as well as their applications in recent architectural projects.
This VU is a core subject of the module Digital design and production. The discussed topics are:
- Freeform surfaces
- Meshes
- Subdivision surfaces and modeling
- Analysis of shapes
- Developable surfaces and unfoldings
- Shape optimization problems
- Discrete freeform structures
The lab-part intends further discussion and implementation of the topics above.
This course will treat various of the advanced chapters (chapters 11, 14, 15, 18, 19) of the book H. Pottmann, A. Asperl, M. Hofer and A. Kilian: Architectural Geometry. Bentley Institute Press (2007), 724 pages, 2200 figures in color, ISBN 978-1-934493-04-5.
