## Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to ...

• use logical connectives and quantifiers correctly,
• model quantitative relationships using the concept of functions,
• distinguish between the characteristic properties of the integer, rational, real and complex numbers,
• solve counting problems using a suitable combinatorial formula,
• perform basic calculations, such as calculation of roots, in the field of complex numbers,
• transform Cartesian to polar resp. cylindrical and spherical coordinates,
• determine the convergence and possibly the limit of a sequence, in particular of an infinite sum or a power series,
• determine continuity and differentiability of real functions in one variable, and to determine the derivative of such a function
• examine polynomials for their reducibility and to determine their zeros exactly or approximatively,
• expand real functions into their Taylor series and to formulate the relationship between these objects,
• express quantitative relationships using elementary functions such as exponential, power, trigonometric functions and their inverse functions,
• determine monotonicity, minimal and maximal values, and curvature by means of differential calculus,
• correctly interpret the integral of a real function, and in simple cases to determine it numerically

## Subject of course

Elements of mathematical logic, real and complex numbers, linear algebra in 2d and 3d, real functions, calculus.
