Aim of course
Familiarity with the most important types of partial differential equations. Overview of solution approaches and the necessary mathematical prerequisites.
Subject of course
Prerequisites from vector analysis, functional analysis, distributions, Fourier transformation. Quasilinear first order equations. Linear elliptic, parabolic, and hyperbolic equations of second order. Methods: maximum principle, Sobolev spaces, variational principles, spectral analysis.
