Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to understand the basic concepts of numerical solution algorithms. Use of standard software is discussed and how to use it in a competent way.

Subject of course

Content of lecture:

1) Basics of numerical computing

2) Numerical linear algebra

3) Interpolation and approximation

4) Numerical linear algebra

Exercises: Small working groups solve given problems. This includes theoretical questions as well as implementation and testing of numerical algorithms.

Teaching methods

Lecture (content as specified above)

Exercises (projects) are regularly discussed with one of the advisors.
The results are to be documented.

Choice of programming language: There are no strict rules.
Matlab is recommended; also Maple, Python or C++ are options.

Mode of examination

Immanent
