Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to correctly apply the central concepts and computational techniques of the course. This includes  (to a lesser degree) the ability to understand and explain these concepts and techniques.

Subject of course

 The following topics are covered:

  • Vectorspaces, matrices, systems of linear equations, scalar product, eigenvalue problem
  • functions of several variables, derivatives, taylorseries, extreme values, inverse and implicit functions, coordinate transformations
  • differential equations, elementary solution techniques, linear differential equations
  •  integral calculus in higher dimensions

Teaching methods

In class the concepts and methods are motivated, explained and illustrated through examples. Lecture notes and suitable textbooks should be used in addition.
