## Learning outcomes

After successful completion of the course, students are able to independently wield standard techniques in ordinary differential equations. They can solve certain classes of differential equations and have understood the basic analytical techniques. They are familiar with and have understood the course content given below.

fundamental solution methods, Existence and uniqueness of the solution to initial value problems, systems of linear differential equations of first order an linear differential equations of higher order, fundamentals of qualitative theory, linear boundary problems, Sturm-Liouville theory, applications of differential equations

## Teaching methods

In class the notions, concepts and methods of the above-mentionend mathematical topics are motivated, explained and illustrated through examples. Lecture notes and suitable textbooks should be used in addition.

Information on the examination:

• The examination covers all the material covered in the lecture and exercise.
• The focus is on solving examples whose difficulty corresponds approximately to that of the examples in the exercise.
• A total of 48 points are to be achieved, with some points being awarded for theory questions.
• Theory questions refer to central concepts, methods and theorems of the lecture. Questions on theory can also be asked in a specific context as part of examples (comprehension questions). The reproduction of complete proofs of theorems from the lecture is not part of the examination. Questions about the structure of proofs or ideas for proofs are possible.
• The production of qualitatively correct sketches is required.
