Broaden the knowledge in one of the topics of the applied and numerical analysis.
Summer term: We deal with the numerical treatment of ordinary differential equations (ODEs), one of the most important fields in Numerical Analysis. The first talks will be given by the professors to specify and illustrate the most important basic notions which characterize the numerical methods, stability, consistency and convergence. After that we discuss so-called singular ODEs, a class of problems with many important applications in engineering and natural sciences. We deal with the solvability of scalar problems of first and second order and some standard numerical schemes for its approximate solution. We complete the seminar by discussing some applications and their treatment using available software.
